Tharros & Mont’e Prama Giants Tour

Let immerse yourself in the beautiful ancient Tharros site, with a deep insight into the mysterious history of the Mont’e Prama Giants. You will discover the sensational Sardinian west coast and all the secrets it keeps especially in the Sinis peninsula.

The itinerary of your private tour begins with your private driver collecting you  from your hotel in Cagliari or nearby location.

Tharros village

The first part of the tour will be dedicated to the particular ancient town of Tharros. After 1,5 hr drive you will reach the site which is located  in the extremity of the Sinis peninsula, on the top of a hill just before the sea in a spectacular landscape. The city was founded at the end of the 8th century BC probably by the Phoenicians, where already the Nuragic population have lived. You will start a visit of  Tharros together with a licensed guide of the site, and you will discover the beauties and curiosity of this open-air museum, and  its  long history where Nuragic, Phoenician and Roman population have left  the signs of their passage.

Mont’e Prama Giants

The tour will continue at the Civic Museum Giovanni Marongiu, after just few minutes drive. Here, in the town of Cabras, you will see the first sculptures ever made in the European territory – in fact, the Mont’e Prama Giants are actually older than the Greeks statues.

These “Giants” were found at the beginning of the 70’s but the excavation only began in 2013 and still continues, some of the found sculptures can now be seen at the the museum.

Who are those “Giants”? there is still some mystery about them, the only sure thing we know is that they belong to the Nuragic period and represents heroes: they are 2/2,5 meters tall and represent figures of fighters, archers and warriors, they also seem to be a bigger representation of the Nuragic bronze statuettes.

During the visit at the museum you will be helped by a guide to understand what we know about these fascinating sculptures, and most importantly, what can we learn about the famous and enigmatic past of the Nuragic Civilization through them.

After the guided visit, your day-trip will conclude with a transfer back to your hotel in Cagliari, or to the city centers, where you can continue visiting this warm and vibrant city.

Museum visitMont'e Prama Giants

The Mont’e Prama Giants are ancient stone sculptures created by the Nuragic civilization of Sardinia. Fragmented into numerous pieces, they were found by accident in March 1974, in farmland near Mont’e Prama.
